Spine and Joint Tincture

The Liquid Alignment: Deep Root Support in a Drop

When structural discomfort goes deep, sometimes you need a remedy that can follow. At Flattop Mountain Herbs, we recognize that while salves are excellent for targeted topical relief, a tincture offers a concentrated, internal approach to skeletal wellness. Our Spine & Joint Tincture is the liquid essence of our most potent root medicine. Crafted with the same four-month dedication as our salve, this high-proof extract is designed for those who prefer a fast-acting, bioavailable way to support the "hinges" and "pillars" of their body.

The Root Ritual: Recipe & Bottling

A high-potency extraction of patience and structural wisdom.

The "Skeletal Essence" Recipe:

  • 3 Tablespoons of 1st-Year Mullein Root (Dried and chopped)

  • 3 Tablespoons of Multiflora Solomon's Seal Root (Dried and chopped) (Must be Polygonatum biflorum/multiflorum)

  • 3 Tablespoons of Comfrey Root (Dried and chopped)

  • 12 oz 100-Proof Vodka (High-proof is required to extract dense root resins)

  • Realized Yield: Approximately 10–11 oz of finished tincture after the final press.

Our Artisanal Process:

  1. The Initial Extraction: Place your first-year Mullein and both varieties of Solomon’s Seal roots into a sanitized quart glass jar. Submerge them completely in the 100-proof vodka. Seal and store in a cool, dark place for three months.

  2. The Final Press: Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with several layers of cheesecloth. Squeeze the cloth vigorously to capture every drop of the potent extract.

  3. The Bottling: Using a small funnel, pour the tincture into 4oz amber glass bottles. Amber glass is critical for protecting the tincture from light degradation. Seal tightly and label.

How to Use:

Because this is a concentrated root extract, it has a deep, earthy flavor. Add one to 2 teaspoons to a small glass of water, juice, or your favorite herbal tea.

Why It Works: Structural Synergy

This tincture provides a direct path for root medicine to support the musculoskeletal system from the inside out.

  • First-Year Mullein Root: Traditionally used to support spinal alignment and joint lubrication, the root is the "secret weapon" for those seeking to soothe the deep-seated inflammation that affects mobility.

  • Comfry Root  : Comfrey root has earned the nickname "Knitbone" (and the Latin name Symphytum, meaning "to unite") for a very good reason. Historically and scientifically, it is one of the most powerful plants for supporting the musculoskeletal system. Comfrey root contains a unique profile of chemical compounds that work synergistically to support the body's structural integrity:

    • Accelerated Tissue Repair (The Allantoin Factor): Comfrey is exceptionally rich in allantoin, a compound that stimulates cell proliferation. When applied topically, it encourages the skin, connective tissues, and even bone cells to regenerate faster. This is why it is legendary for helping "knit" minor fractures and mend torn ligaments.

    • Deep Anti-Inflammatory Action: The root contains rosmarinic acid and phenolic acids that penetrate deep into the tissues to reduce swelling. This makes it an incredible ally for acute injuries (like sprains and strains) and chronic conditions (like osteoarthritis or "worn-out" knees).

    • Tendon and Ligament Elasticity: Comfrey is a "mucilaginous" herb, meaning it provides a soothing, lubricating quality. It helps maintain the flexibility of tendons and ligaments, which is vital for preventing injury during heavy homestead chores like lifting hay or digging post holes.

    • Pain Reduction: By reducing the pressure caused by inflammation around the nerves in the joints and back, Comfrey provides significant topical pain relief without the systemic side effects of oral NSAIDs.

·         Solomon’s Seal: The "Intelligent" Joint Lubricant. While Comfrey is the "builder" that knits things back together, Solomon’s Seal (Polygonatum biflorum/multiflorum) is the "balancer." In traditional herbalism, it is often described as having a unique "intelligence" for the musculoskeletal system—knowing exactly where the body needs more tension and where it needs more fluid.

  • The Tincture Advantage: By using an alcohol base, we capture the roots' properties in a highly shelf-stable and portable form. This allow the body to absorb the nutrients quickly, providing support right when you need it.

A Note from the Blue Ridge:

Our Spine & Joint Tincture is a powerful botanical tool. As with all concentrated extracts, we recommend starting with a small amount and consulting with your healthcare provider, especially if you are taking other medications or have chronic health conditions.
