Cough Tincture
Ingredients
2 oz of Dried Organic Mullein Leaves (roughly 1 cup, chopped)
½ oz of Dried Organic Peppermint Leaves (roughly 1/2 cup)
10 oz 100-Proof Vodka (The high alcohol content ensures a complete extraction)
Realized Yield: Approximately 8–9 oz after straining through a fine mesh metal strainer
Preparation
Prepare the Jar: Sanitize a quart jar. Chop your dried leaves into small pieces to maximize the surface area.
Submerge: Add the leaves and pour the 10 oz of vodka over them, keeping them fully submerged. If they soak it up, add a splash more to stay covered.
Seal and Store: Shake vigorously and store in a cool, dark place for one month. Shake the jar daily to keep the extraction active.
Strain and Store: After 30 days, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve.
Pro Tip: Have patience to extract every last "gold" drop from the leaves.
How it Works
By tincturing these two powerhouse herbs together, we create a liquid extract that offers comprehensive respiratory support:
Mullein (The Lung Specialist): This tincture acts as a concentrated expectorant. It works rapidly to soothe the throat and thin out mucus, making it significantly easier to expel "gunk" from the lungs. It is a time-tested ally for those dealing with the tightness of bronchitis or asthma.
Peppermint (The Cooling Catalyst): The menthol in peppermint provides immediate cooling relief to an inflamed respiratory tract, opening airways and balancing the earthy flavor of the mullein.
The Tincture Advantage: This process preserves the botanical properties in a bioavailable form that enters the bloodstream much faster than tea, providing relief right when you need it.
