Body Salve
The Meadow's Embrace: Deep Restorative Skin Defense
When your skin needs more than just a light touch, it needs the lasting protection of a botanical barrier. At Flattop Mountain Herbs, we’ve taken the sun-drenched energy of our signature floral oils and transformed them into a rich, velvety salve. While oils provide a quick glow, our Body Salve is designed to stay with you, locking in moisture and delivering healing nutrients deep into the skin's surface. It’s the concentrated essence of a Blue Ridge meadow, crafted to protect, soothe, and restore even the most hardworking skin.

The Salve Ritual: Recipe & Jarring
A slow-matured infusion meets the richness of the earth.
The "Meadow Shield" Recipe:
8 oz Matured Floral Infusion (Dandelion, Lavender, and Calendula in our triple-oil blend). *Note: See the Body Oil Recipe for instructions on how to Infuse the Oils.
1.5 oz Pure Beeswax (Pellets or grated)
1.5 oz Organic Shea Butter
Realized Yield: Approximately 10–11 oz of finished salve (enough to fill five 2 oz jars).
Our Artisanal Process:
The Base: Start with your 8 oz of pre-strained, 3-month matured floral oil. Ensure it is free of any plant debris for a smooth final texture. Use a fine-mesh sieve if required.
The Gentle Melt: Using a double boiler over low heat, combine the floral oil and the white beeswax. Stir continuously until the wax is completely melted.
The Shea Addition: Once the wax is liquid, add the shea butter. We add this last and stir until just melted to preserve its delicate moisturizing fatty acids. Remove from heat immediately.
The Jarring: Prepare your 2 oz jars a flat surface. Carefully pour the warm liquid into each container, filling to just below the rim.
The Setting: Leave the jars undisturbed and uncovered for at least 2 to 3 hours. This prevents condensation from forming on the surface. Once the salve is firm and opaque, secure the lids and label.
How to Use:
Scoop a small amount and warm it between your palms. Massage into dry elbows, knees, heels, or any area needing extra care. It is particularly effective as a "night mask" for hands and feet. To gain the full benefit, wear gloves and socks after application.
Why It Works: The Protective Trinity
This salve doesn't just sit on the skin; it creates a breathable "second skin" that allows the botanical extracts to work for hours.
Dandelion & Lavender: This duo works to detoxify and calm the skin. Dandelion provides a burst of vitamins to brighten the complexion, while Lavender reduces redness and eases the mind.
Calendula (The Golden Healer): Concentrating Calendula into a salve enhances its ability to support tissue repair, providing a soothing cushion for dry, chapped, or irritated skin.
Shea Butter & Beeswax: Unlike lotions that evaporate, Beeswax creates a natural, waterproof barrier that protects from wind and cold. Shea Butter improves skin elasticity and provides "deep-dive" hydration.
The Triple-Oil Foundation: The base of Olive, Grapeseed, and Canola oils ensures that the vitamins from the flowers are delivered in a format the skin recognizes and absorbs readily.
A Note from Flattop Mountain Herbs:
Our Body Salve is 100% natural and handcrafted in small batches. Because we use real beeswax and shea butter, the texture may soften in the heat and firm up in the cold—a true sign of a pure, chemical-free product.
